This bench was actually purchased as part of a larger project...the 2X4basics picnic table, which features two such benches. We bought this kit because we had read a review on the picnic table that suggested that a third bench kit be used to provide a middle leg for additional support in the center. We felt that made sense so shelled out for the additional kit. The benches went together just fine. The instructions are on the box, so don't throw away the box. The kit included enough screws to finish the project with a few left over. I bought my wood at Loews and had it cut to the lengths I needed at the store. We sanded, primed and painted everything before assembling. (You don't paint the legs just the wood you purchase. Painting the legs voids the warranty.) The actual assembly was done in about 30 minutes for the first bench...a little less for the second including the addition of the middle leg. I placed shims between the wood pieces to maintain even spacing. The finished benches are nice and wide. Much wider than traditional picnic table benches and as a result more comfortable, albeit heavier. Once assembled we were impressed how sturdy the benches as well as our picnic table were. We were concerned that the composite material would be too flimsy, but it isn't and it won't rot over time. One downside in adding the middle support leg is that if the surface where the bench will be placed isn't level one side or the other will be off the ground. So you will need a level place for your bench. We were placing our benches and picnic table in a backyard and had no trouble finding a suitable location.

I bought this to replace one that broke in my picnic table set. The bench has no stability in the side ways direction. The board in the bottom is not properly supporting the bench. I added a board across the ends of the bottom board and some 45 degree braces to add strength to the bench

We love our new bench. It exceeded our expectations. The shipment came very quickly and the bench was so easy to put together. It is much sturdier than the bench we replaced and it cost less than half the price.
